"Be Beast" Series
African Wild Dog now only survives in a handful of places across sub-Saharan Africa. This species was classified by the IUCN as endangered in 2016. They are now extinct from North Africa and have disappeared from the 25 of 39 African countries where they previously lived. The decline of these populations is ongoing, due to habitat fragmentation and competition with larger predators like lions. Additionally, conflicts occur when wild dogs come in contact with humans whose livelihoods rest largely on livestock and agriculture.
