"Be Beast" Series
Chinchilla is a rodent native to the Andes mountains in South America. Wild chinchillas are now considered to be critically endangered by the IUCN. Their populations have declined by an alarming 90% in the past 15 years; they are likely to become extinct in the wild within a decade. Though it is illegal to hunt wild chinchillas, they are now on the verge of becoming extinct because of continued poaching for their fur. A single, full-length coat made from chinchilla fur may require as many as 150 pelts, as chinchillas are relatively small.
