Chinese Alligator, also historically known as muddy dragon, is widely regarded as the most endangered crocodilian in the world. Endemic to China, it is ranked as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List. The wild populations are still rapidly declining due to extreme habitat fragmentation and loss, their food resources are contaminated by fertilizer and pesticide used for agriculture, and the hunting for their hides, which are used in making leather for clothing, handbags, footwear, furniture, sports equipment and tools.
