Tiger. The five still remaining species of tigers endemic to Asia are listed as endangered. Until it was banned under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), trophy hunting and a market for tiger rugs and coats threatened the tiger’s survival. Despite protections, tigers are still killed due to human population growth, poaching for their parts, illegal hunting for their meat used in folk medicines, and forest destruction. On the black-market, one tiger rug can cost $124,000, while a stuffed tiger cost $700,000.
